Woman’s Choice, founded in 1977 as Lifeline of Charleston, is a non-profit pregnancy resource center staffed by trained Christian volunteers and funded by donations from churches and individuals. We are affiliated with Heartbeat International and America’s Pregnancy Helpline. All services are free and confidential. We offer pregnancy tests; verification and referrals for medical care, WIC, and the Department of Health and Human Services; and abstinence counseling for unmarried clients. We have shepherding homes available or we can refer clients for other types of housing. Maternity clothes, diapers, baby clothes and furnishings are also available. A registered nurse, doctor, attorney, and licensed clinical psychologist are available to us for consultation when needed. In 2002, we were contacted by 1,088 people with various needs: 90 young women were given maternity and baby items; 229 clients were counseled concerning pregnancy; 19 of the 21 young women initially seeking abortion changed their minds after conferring with a Woman’s Choice volunteer and chose life for their babies. Woman’s Choice sponsors a post-abortion Bible study using the HEART (Healing the Effects of Abortion Related Trauma) manual published by Heartbeat International. A support group or individual PAS counseling is available. We offer parenting classes for new or expectant mothers and fathers. Please contact Woman’s Choice Pregnancy Resource Center if you are pregnant and need help or if your organization would like our spokesperson to give a slide presentation to either teens or adults concerning: abortion and sanctity of life, fetal development, abstinence, or volunteering with our center. In 2002, 10 pro-life/abstinence presentations were given by a Woman’s Choice volunteer. |
